QURAN
QURAN
Sura 7- Verse 81, 82, 84
You come with desire to men instead of women. You are a transgressing people. Remove this transgressing people from your town, so that we people may keep ourselves pure.” And We rained down on them a rain (of stones). Then see what was the end of those criminals.
Sura 26 – Verse 165, 166, 172, 173
Why do you approach men? And leave the wives created for you? Surely you are a transgressing people! And We rained down upon them a rain [of stones]. Thus We destroyed them.
Sura 29 – Verse 29, 31
Is it not true that you come to men, commit robbery and do evil in your assemblies? These inhabitants of this city are corrupters, we will destroy them.
In
Brunei, Iran, Mauritania, some northern states of Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, parts of Somalia and Yemen have the death penalty for homosexual acts.
The texts describe how God destroys an entire city—including women, children, and innocents—by “raining down stones.”
This raises an ethical question:
How can a just and merciful God destroy an entire community because of the sexual sins of a few?
From modern moral standards—individual responsibility, proportionality of punishment—this is unjust.
The above quran verses assumes that humans are naturally heterosexual (“the women who were created for you”) and that same-sex desire is therefore a violation of the order of creation. Modern biology, however, convincingly demonstrates that sexual diversity occurs naturally in humans and animals, and that orientation is largely innate.
If one continues to cling to the old assumption that homosexuality is “against nature,” one clashes with scientific knowledge. And raises the fundamental question: Can a sacred text that is structurally wrong about human nature still serve as a moral guide in sexual ethics?
The quran verses about the people of Lot are historically interesting, but morally problematic. They reflect an old male-dominant worldview in which sexuality is legitimized solely within reproduction and male possession. But based on modern knowledge of biology and ethics, that view is no longer tenable.
Hadith:
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 38, Number 4447 :
The Prophet said: You know people like the Lot people? Kill the one who does it and the one to whom it was done.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 38, Number 4448:
If an unmarried man is arrested for committing sodomy, stone him to death.
Sunan Abi Dawud Book 32, Number 4087:
The Prophet curses men who dress as women and women who dress as men.
Hadith Sunan Abi Dawud 4097
The Messenger of Allah cursed the women who imitate men and the men who imitate women.
According to Sunan Abu Dawud 5224, Muhammad once lifted up his shirt and allowed another man to kiss his torso from his navel to his armpits. Was this an example of Muhammad having homosexual inclinations?
Here is the hadith:
Narrated by Usayd ibn Hudayr:
AbdurRahman ibn AbuLayla, quoting Usayd ibn Hudayr, a man from the Ansar, said that while he was joking and talking to the people and making them laugh, the Prophet (ﷺ) stabbed him under the ribs with a stick. He said: Let me take revenge. He said: Take revenge. He said: You are wearing a shirt, but I am not. The Prophet (ﷺ) then lifted up his shirt and the man embraced him and started kissing his side. He then said: This is what I wanted, Messenger of Allah!
Musnad Ahmad: 1624 and 16245
[Mua’wiya said]: I saw the Prophet sucking the tongue or the lips of Al-Hassan, the son of Ali, may the prayers of Allah be upon him. For no tongue or lip which the Prophet sucked will be tormented (by the Hellfire).
Other facts
- Some people believe homosexuality is wrong because their religion says so. But from biology and psychology, we know that homosexuality is not a disease or a choice.
- Homosexuality is not just an “idea.” Homosexuals are real people like everyone else: “who experience love, who work hard, and who can feel emotionally connected, just like everyone else.”
- Science has discovered that homosexual behavior is widespread throughout the animal kingdom—from mammals to birds and insects. Therefore, it is not a deviation or an unnatural phenomenon.
- Homosexual behavior has been observed in more than 1,500 animal species (including monkeys, dolphins, swans, and even penguins).
- This means: “If something occurs in nature in so many species, it is difficult to say that it is ‘unnatural.’”
- Just as there are people with different eye colors or left-handedness, there is also natural variation in blood type or sexual orientation.
- Diversity is what keeps nature alive. Without variation, there is no evolution.
- Genetic and hormonal factors play a role in sexual orientation. And evolution works thanks to genetic and behavioral variation.
- Homosexuality, bisexuality, and heterosexuality together form a spectrum of natural expression.
- “Some people believe that homosexuality is wrong because their religion says so.
But from biology and psychology, we know that homosexuality is not a disease or a choice. - Concluding message:
- “Whether you believe in God or the power of nature: diversity is a part of life.
Biologists don’t see homosexuality as wrong or deviant, but as one of the many ways in which life expresses itself. And as a human being, I believe that everyone deserves to be themselves.”
